Overview
Disassembling and cleaning the S1 Plus Filament Junction is an important maintenance step when certain issues occur. This process is typically needed in the following situations:
- Filament swap not actuating properly – The filament runout switch, located inside the junction, may stop triggering correctly due to dust, debris, or mechanical wear.
- This can look like the S1 Plus not detecting when a side is empty after the filament has run out and been fully pulled through the S1 by the printer, causing a failed reload or no reload.
- It can also appear as strange loading behavior or the S1 Plus not loading at all when filament is still present.
Cleaning the junction ensures the runout switch functions correctly and the filament switches consistently. Performing this maintenance after a filament jam or any incident of abnormal switching will help prevent future failures and extend the lifespan of the junction assembly.

Step 2: Disassemble Filament Junction
Following the steps in the pictures below, you’ll start disassembling the filament junction by removing the two springs and then the screws.
⚠️ There are small loose metal balls inside — do not lose them during disassembly

Step 3: Filament Junction Cleaning
Blow out all passages using compressed air and remove any dust or debris that is found inside.

Step 4: Reassembly
Following the steps in the pictures below, you’ll reassemble the filament junction. First, place the funnel top onto the base and set the three metal balls into position. Carefully place that assembly onto the PCB, making sure the balls stay seated. Then set the whole assembly back into the junction base, reinstall the screws, add the springs, and finally reattach the junction to the S1+ using this guide.
